Fante chieftains in Cape Coast during a public outing. In some parts of Ghana chiefs are carried shoulder high by royal courtiers.

In the shadow of Queen Victoria

Barack Obama's recent visit to Ghana was well followed by the world media because it was his first to sub-Saharan Africa since his election. On the trip, he visited Cape Coast, a city about 2 hours from Accra. Cape Coast used to be the colonial capital of Ghana during the British invasion. There still stands this bust of Queen Victoria in a park named after her but now christened the Jubilee Park.
