Vigil for World Champs

Over four thousand Ghanaian fans waited patiently for over three hours for the arrival of newly crowned FIFA U-20 champions the Black Satellites on Saturday night at the Accra airport. The champs finally landed via an Egypt Air flight at about 10:30pm to rapturous applause from a grateful nation. Ghana defeated Brazil 4-3 on penalties after a scoreless game in Cairo to become Africa's first team to win at Under 20 after two previous attempts each by Ghana and Nigeria at the the final.

Kwame Nkrumah @ 100

Monday September 21 was the centenary birthday of Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's founding president and a great voice in the call for African unity. He was celebrated at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra. In the middle of this photo is Dr. Julius Garvey, son of Marcus Garvey, one of the earliest people to call for the unity of Africa, leading a group of pan-Africanists in a procession with the Nkrumah statue in the background.
